Have reasons and stick to them. Adhering to ideology and belief systems blindly makes you look shallow to others. If you find a component of your knowledge base is essential to your sense of self, you should prepare to defend your position with confidence. It will also help you become more intimate with the beliefs that comprise your core self.

Make flashcards from your text’s glossary. Don’t cut the pages from your book! Photocopy each page. Carefully cut out each term and its definition and tape them to their respective sides of miniature flashcards. If you are careful you can often fold the definitions and term in such as way they fold right around the edge of the card.

Toss out the negative internal dialogue. Did you make an unwise decision? Possibly. Does this make you an unwise person who deserves a mental whipping after each mistake? Definitely not. Look for the humor, wisdom, and knowledge that can be gleaned from any of your mistakes, whether they were major or minor.

This may sound cliche but its the truth. You must employ positive thinking. Everyone worries and practices negative thinking. However, you must learn to notice when this is going on and practice turning those thoughts and feelings into something positive and practical. Positive thinking in any situation is a very powerful tool.

Put a stop to those unwanted imaginary opinions that you think people have about you. Many of the terrible things you think people are thinking about you are not really occurring. If you can put a stop to what is basically self-criticizing, you are sure to gain the confidence you want.

Be solutions oriented. There are two types of people in the world: those that constantly throw up problems without offering solutions and those that communicate the issues at hand and offer solutions. The latter is who you want to be. Leaders are solutions-oriented. They see the problems just as well as the former, but they don’t stop there. They take the time to develop ways around the issues.

To keep yourself motivated have a friendly competition with a friend or colleague.
This applies to everything from weight loss to quarterly goals. Most people simply work harder when in competition with others. The other person can also help you stay on track and avoid lazy days. For extra motivation compete for a prize.
