Self awareness is a major part of personal development. You must pay attention to what you do on a daily basis and what you can and should improve upon. Self awareness is also a wonderful tool to learn more about you. When you become self aware, strengths and faults will begin to surface and you will be forced to reckon with them.
A great tip to help you with personal development is to start building up your confidence. Confidence can have a tremendous impact on everything you do. There are many ways to improve your confidence, such as getting in shape, buying some nice clothes, or getting to know new people.
Don’t be afraid to share ideas with other people. Especially if you work in the creative industry, try sharing ideas with family, friends and your peers. The old days of keeping your ideas to yourself are over. If you keep jumping from idea to idea without feedback, then you can’t possibly know what is working and why.
To be successful find your strong points and focus on developing them. Don’t worry too much about being well-rounded. Your strong points are what sets you apart from others. Develop your strong skill sets and you become an expert. Experts are invaluable to organizations and being an expert makes you more marketable.
Keep your temper in check by taking a few seconds to consider the incendiary event. If another person was involved, did he or she commit the offensive act on purpose, or was it a careless mistake that practically anyone (yourself included) could have easily made? Use this insight to determine whether or not your planned response is appropriate given the accidental or deliberate nature of the offense.
Any time you set yourself a new personal goal, whether weight loss or a job promotion be sure not to announce it to everyone. Of course, you want to tell a few people for accountability, but save telling everyone for when you have actually fulfilled the goal. This way, you won’t receive the recognition before you have accomplished something.
Be solutions oriented. There are two types of people in the world: those that constantly throw up problems without offering solutions and those that communicate the issues at hand and offer solutions. The latter is who you want to be. Leaders are solutions-oriented. They see the problems just as well as the former, but they don’t stop there. They take the time to develop ways around the issues.
A really great way to be self aware is to document each and every day. Always keep a journal or notepad on you and write about what, in detail, has happened throughout that day. The more often you write, the more accurate your account will be. Look back and read over the diary often; things to be proud of or even ashamed of will begin to stand out over time. Work on what you don’t like and in the end you will be happy about your new attitude.
